The Sibenik-Knin County covers the area of 2,994 km2. Deeply cut by the canyon of the rivers of Krka and Cikola, Prukljansko Lake and Sibenik canal, the county is divided to two parts. The southern, coastal part covers about 240 islands and islets, only 6 of which are populated (Prvic, Zlarin, Kaprije, Cirje, Krapanj and Murter). Northern, mostly mountainous part covers the area of Dalmatian hinterland (with the towns of Knin and Drnis). Particularity of this region is the Krka Waterfalls national park. Passing through carst area, from Dinara to the sea, Krka created an impressive canyon with numerous waterfalls, the highest of which is Skradinski buk (46 m). Sibenik, a historical town and port, is today the administrative and cultural centre of the county.
