Bani Suwayf
Bani Suwayf governorate lies in the Lower Egypt, forming a shape similar to the two sides of the triangle. The capital city of Beni Suwayf bears the same name and is an important agricultural center which grew from a small village since the turn of the century. The most interesting aspect of Beni Suwayf is the Museum. The first floor of the museum is devoted to Pharaonic items such as statues, canopic jars and sarcophagi as well as various Greco-Roman items. Most of these items came from nearby Abusir and Heracleopolis Magna. The second floor is devoted to Coptic and Muslim items which came from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. For those interested in historical heritage the town of Ihnasya el Madina deserves most attention in this province of Egypt. The ancient ruins of the city covers an area of about 165 acres. Here are the ruins of a temple of Herishef built by Ramesses II and also to the south a very old cemetery, military tombs from the First Intermediate period and a necropolis from the Third Intermediate period.
