Tanger Tetouan
Tangier-Tétouan is one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. It is situated in north-western Morocco. It covers an area of 11,570 km² and has a population of 2,470,372 (2004 census). The capital is Tétouan.It borders the Mediterranean Sea and Spain to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to its west. The region of Tangier-Tetouan consists of three provinces (Chefchaouen, Larache and Tetouan) and two prefectures (Tangier-Assilah and Fahs-Beni Makada).Tétouan , also spelled Tetuan, sometimes Tettawen or Tettawan, is the capital and cultural centre of the region Tangier-Tétouan (Tanja) in the north of Morocco, the only open port of Morocco on the Mediterranean Sea, a few miles south of the Strait of Gibraltar, and about 40 mi (60 km) E.S.E. of Tangier. In 2004 the city had 320,539 inhabitants (census figure), up from about 25,000, of whom a fifth were Jews, in the early 20th century.
